PeopleSoft organizations are increasingly looking at AI as the next step in ERP modernization. The conversation often starts with potential use cases, such as faster access to business data, process automation, conversational analytics, or AI-assisted workflows.

But introducing AI into an enterprise ERP environment requires more than choosing an AI model or adding a new application.

The underlying PeopleSoft environment still matters.

Integrations need to move data securely. Users need reliable access to information. Business processes need to be configurable without creating additional customization complexity. Security must protect sensitive ERP data. And the platform needs the performance to support increasingly connected processes.

This is where PeopleTools 8.63 becomes relevant.

PeopleTools 8.63 should not simply be viewed as an AI release. Instead, many of its improvements across integrations, analytics, automation, security, user experience, and performance can help organizations strengthen the technology foundation needed for broader PeopleSoft modernization and future AI initiatives.

AI Starts With Access to the Right PeopleSoft Data

AI is only useful when it can work with the information required to answer a question or support a business process.

For PeopleSoft organizations, much of that information already exists across Finance, HR, Supply Chain, Campus Solutions, purchasing, payroll, benefits, and other applications.

The challenge is making that information accessible to modern applications while maintaining PeopleSoft business rules and security.

PeopleTools 8.63 continues to strengthen capabilities around REST, JSON, and Integration Broker, helping PeopleSoft communicate more effectively with external applications and cloud services.

This matters because future AI applications will often need to interact with PeopleSoft rather than operate independently from it.

For example, an AI-enabled application may need to retrieve purchasing information, employee data, invoice status, or other ERP information. Stronger integration capabilities provide the connection between those experiences and the underlying PeopleSoft processes.

The objective is not to replace PeopleSoft. It is to make it easier for modern technologies to work with the ERP investment already in place.

Integrations Become More Important as AI Expands

Most enterprise AI use cases do not live inside a single application.

A business question may require information from PeopleSoft as well as documents, cloud applications, analytics platforms, or other enterprise systems. Automated processes may also need to send information back into PeopleSoft after validation or approval.

That makes integration architecture an important part of AI planning.

PeopleTools 8.63 includes improvements around Integration Broker performance, message handling, error visibility, REST services, JSON support, and connectivity with cloud platforms such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

For business users, better integration can mean fewer failed transactions, more consistent information across systems, and less time waiting for disconnected processes to catch up.

For technology teams, it creates a stronger foundation for introducing new services without forcing every modernization initiative directly into the core PeopleSoft application.

Better Analytics Create a More Accessible Data Experience

Another important part of modernization is changing how users access ERP information.

Traditionally, business users may depend on reports, predefined queries, batch processes, or assistance from technical teams to find the information they need.

PeopleTools 8.63 strengthens the analytics experience through improvements to Kibana and OpenSearch dashboards. Faster visualizations, more responsive filters, and interactive dashboards can help users work with operational information more directly.

That might include invoice aging, purchase order status, financial trends, HR metrics, or other business information.

This is also relevant to the longer-term AI conversation.

As organizations move toward more conversational ways of interacting with enterprise data, the underlying ability to search, retrieve, organize, and present information becomes increasingly important.

AI may change the interface through which users ask questions, but trusted access to ERP data still has to happen underneath that experience.

Reduce Manual AP Processing Without Replacing Your ERP

Connect invoice capture, validation, matching, approvals, exception handling, and voucher creation inside your existing PeopleSoft, Oracle EBS, or JD Edwards environment.

    Automation Without Adding More Customization

Modernization does not always require replacing an application. Sometimes it means improving how existing business processes work.

PeopleTools capabilities such as Page and Field Configurator and Event Mapping give organizations more flexibility to adjust PeopleSoft behavior while reducing reliance on traditional customizations.

Page and Field Configurator can give functional teams greater control over page behavior and validations. Event Mapping can allow organizations to introduce logic while keeping delivered code intact.

PeopleTools 8.63 also improves support for automation tools that can help reduce repetitive activity across functions such as AP, Finance, and HR.

    This distinction is important.

The goal is not to “manage PeopleSoft with AI.” The opportunity is to identify manual processing within PeopleSoft and determine where automation or AI can make those business processes more efficient.

Reducing unnecessary custom code also makes it easier to maintain the environment as modernization efforts continue.

Security Must Remain Part of the AI Architecture

PeopleSoft contains some of an organization's most sensitive information.

HR systems may contain employee and payroll data. Finance applications contain payment and supplier information. Campus Solutions environments can contain student records.

Any future AI initiative that connects with these systems must operate within appropriate security and governance controls.

PeopleTools 8.63 introduces improvements around authentication, auditing, and data masking that can help organizations strengthen how access and sensitive information are managed.

This becomes particularly important as more applications begin consuming ERP data through integrations and services.

Modernization should make information easier to use without making sensitive information easier to expose.

That means identity, authorization, auditability, and data protection should be considered from the beginning of an AI initiative rather than added after the solution has already been developed.

Performance Still Shapes the User Experience

An AI interface may look modern, but it still depends on the systems behind it.

If pages are slow, integrations struggle, or batch processes create delays, adding another layer of technology does not solve the underlying problem.

PeopleTools 8.63 includes improvements to page rendering, caching, batch processing, and maintenance that can contribute to better day-to-day performance.

These improvements benefit everyday PeopleSoft users today, including AP processors, payroll teams, HR specialists, procurement users, and managers.

They can also support broader modernization efforts by creating a more responsive environment for connected applications and automated processes.

Modernizing PeopleSoft Before Adding More Technology

The AI conversation should begin with a practical question:

Is the existing PeopleSoft environment ready to support the business process we want AI to improve?

Organizations should look at how data is accessed, how systems are connected, where manual processing remains, what security controls are required, and whether the environment can support additional services without creating unnecessary complexity.

PeopleTools 8.63 provides improvements across many of these areas.

It strengthens integrations. It expands analytics capabilities. It provides additional configuration and automation options. It improves security and performance. And it gives organizations more ways to continue modernizing the PeopleSoft environment they already rely on.

AI can then become part of that modernization strategy, rather than a separate technology layered onto an environment that was never prepared to support it.

The opportunity is not simply to add AI to PeopleSoft.

It is to build the right technology foundation, identify the right business processes, and use AI where it can make PeopleSoft processes smarter, more connected, and easier for users to work with.
