It had been more than a decade since H&S had last performed a functional PeopleSoft upgrade. They were running FSCM 9.1 with PeopleTools version 8.53. The business users have a great understanding of their PeopleSoft system, how it works, and what it can do. However, when business leaders ask for new features, the answer is often that the new feature or request can not be accommodated due to constraints imposed by the current system.

Resource Challenge - Quantity and skills

Over the years, Heidrick & Struggles had consciously been making the decision to cut back on its technical staff to the bare minimum needed to continue to support its systems, and in the case of PeopleSoft, that did not include resourcing for major initiatives like upgrades or re-platforming. As Heidrick & Struggles decided to move to the cloud and determined that Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) would be the best platform for its PeopleSoft application, it became apparent that they did not have sufficient quantity or skilled resources to perform the lift or upgrade.

Need for an SI:

  • that has experience with 9.1 to 9.2 upgrades including tools upgrades
  • that has experience with on-premise to OCI migrations where upgrades are included in the scope of the migration process
  • that can train and bring in-house resources up to speed on OCI technology
  • that can train and bring in-house resources up to speed on differences between 9.1 and 9.2

The Solution

Astute engaged with the Heidrick & Struggles team to understand their specific needs and timeline constraints. A detailed project plan was developed based on the Astute team’s experience, and further input and refinement from Heidrick & Struggles. The Astute team brought standard, hardened, Oracle certified PeopleSoft Terraform scripts representing the architecture that the Astute team recommended for the Heidrick & Struggles team based on our understanding of the Heidrick & Struggles footprint.

Oracle CIoud Migration, Upgrades, Disaster Recovery

A 20-week project that was a whirlwind of mini-projects consisting of multiple upgrades, implementation, and a reimplementation. The amount of work performed by the combined Heidrick & Struggles and Astute teams was indeed impressive, and the teamwork displayed was inspiring. As the treasury/cash management module experienced a significant re-write between the 9.1 and 9.2 versions, a functional re-implementation was required in order to continue utilizing the module.
